I recently had the chance to go check out Australia’s Ultimate Drummers Weekend. It’s Australia’s drum version of NAMM basically. Big expo with all the brands on display as well as some cracking performances from locals and internationals alike. Plenty of serious drummers have graced AUDW in the past.
This year included players such as Virgil Donati, Dom Famularo, Greg Bissonette, Mark Schulman, Daniel Glass and some of Melbourne’s very own – David Jones, Darryn Farrugia, Andy Fisenden and Daniel Farrugia all of which demonstrated why they’re the best in the biz.
There were some fantastic stands and showings from all the major brands across the weekend allowing the drummers to have a real ‘kid in a candy’ store experience.
Some highlights included the new Live Oak Custom series from Yamaha, the new Brooklyn and USA Custom series from Gretsch, the now established Formula 602s from Paiste, the Sleishman Bubinga, the new and revised Saturn Series from Mapex as well as the ‘prodigal son returned’ Pearl Export drum kit and Zildjian A series cymbals. Soultone Cymbals, Craviotto, Sakae drums and the new DW Performance series also made an appearance among many others.
Enjoy the pics.
